No More Condos
To the Editor:

Being a lover of history, it has been with a heavy heart that I have watched programs on The History Channel titled "Save our History" and have seen how battlefields of our Civil War have been developed and desecrated with urban blight such as parking lots. And now I and my fellow residents of Mackinac Island, both year-around and summer, are victims of the same type of ruthless, greedy land developers. At both moratorium meetings, the majority of us voiced our opposition to the building of condominiums which, like the parking lots I referred to, are being built on land that is historically significant (our entire island is!). I believe that our expressed opposition, along with the criticism and even ridicule expressed by visitors to our island, should be enough to cause our city fathers to be ashamed of their lack of action to rectify this sad situation. It's time they get their heads out of the sand and just look around at our island!

If it takes a revision of the island master plan with professional help (our city fathers appear to be at a loss in their efforts to stem the building of these condos), then let's get on with it without further delay. Let's all take a stand and say "no!" to the "big money" interests.
