Evelyn Chambers Evelyn L. Chambers, 85, of Grand Marais, died Friday morning, March 11, 2005, on Mackinac Island at the home of her son, Edward Chambers, and his wife, Nona Tacey. Mrs. Chambers was born in Grand Marais June 5, 1919, to Jennie and John Williamson. She was the oldest of three sisters and one brother. Her father was a career NCO in the United States Lifesaving Service and Coast Guard. Her family was proud of their Finnish heritage. She met her husband, Alfred She served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. She taught home economics and raised three sons. Mrs. Chambers lived in Detroit, Mackinac Island, and Grand Marais most of her life. She recently returned to the Island from Grand Marais because of failing health. She is survived by three sons, Ed Chambers of Mackinac Island, Dan Chambers of Muskegon, and Pat Chambers of Muskegon, and a sister, Janice Borovsky of Detroit. There will be no visitation. A memorial service and graveside service will be held at First Lutheran Church in Grand Marais at 11 a.m. Friday, June 3. She will be buried at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grand Marais, with her husband and parents. Dodson Funeral Home of St. Ignace will assist the family with arrangements.
