Elfa Wyers

Elfa Elizabeth Wyers, 78, of St. Ignace, died at 11:15 p.m. Sunday evening, March 20, 2005, at the home of her daughter, Cindy, in Alpena, following a lingering illness.

She was born to Earl and Ena Pearl (nee Fowl) Hanville in Elyria, Ohio, September 29, 1926. Following high school, she married Richard Wyers April 29, 1942.

Mr. Wyers died June 29, 1996.

Mrs. Wyers was a member of Women of the Moose in St. Ignace and Zion Lutheran Church. She loved to bowl and was one of the original four who opened the bowling alley in St. Ignace. She was a member of St. Ignace Golf and Country Club, a snowmobiler, an avid hunter, loved ice fishing, and played bridge and bingo.

Mrs. Wyers worked for Arnold Transit Company in St. Ignace in the ticket booth on Dock One for more than 20 years until becoming ill in 2004.

She is survived by five daughters and their families, Arlene and Gerry Black of St. Ignace, Cindy and Michael Garries of Alpena, Christine Brown of Lansing, Beth and Kelly Alexander of Mackinaw City, and Jeanne and James Rizzardi of Mackinaw City; her brother, Earl Hanville of Florida; her sisters-in-law, Ann Derby of Florida, and Dorothy Hanville of Sandusky, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Arnold Hanville, Elmer Derby, and Bill Derby.

Services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Tari Stage-Harvey officiating. Burial will be in Epoufette Cemetery later in the spring.
