USCG’s Cole To Be Deployed

Corey Cole, 26, a 2nd Class petty officer for the United States Coast Guard in St. Ignace, is preparing to spend a one-year tour of duty in the Persian Gulf.
Mr. Cole, a Pleasantville, Pennsylvania, native who has been stationed in St. Ignace for the last five years, is receiving specialized training in Virginia. He is scheduled to be deployed June 11 to Qatar, a small country in the Persian Gulf south of Iraq, bordering Saudi Arabia. He left St. Ignace last week and is expected to return in May. He will be part of a 15-person crew on a 110-foot patrol boat involved in port security. His boat will be among a fleet of seven Coast Guard boats securing the area.
Mr. Cole has been in the Coast Guard for seven years, spending the first two years in Sault Ste. Marie. He is engaged to Mariah Horn of Mackinac Island and they plan to be married June 4.
