Mackinac Island Lakers Tip Off Basketball Season

Varsity Boys Lose Pair to Beaver Is. To Start 2004-05

  • The Mackinac Island basketball team had early season jitters and went on to drop two Northern Lights League games to Beaver Island, 47-32 Friday, December 3, and 47-44 Saturday, December 4.
  • On Friday, the Lakers trailed 25-12 at halftime before the Islanders held a 22-20 scoring edge in the second half.

    Jason Pettit led Mackinac Island with 16 points, Woody Beardsley added seven, Ben Mosley chipped in six, Richard Chaffee tallied five, and Riley Chaffee notched one.

    During the game Saturday, Beaver Island led 14-9 after the first quarter before the Lakers held a 10-9 scoring edge in the second period for a 23-19 halftime score.

Mackinac Island outscored Beaver Island 25-24 in the second half to cut the margin to three.

    Richard Chaffee scored 20 points and Jason Pettit added 18 to lead the Lakers offense. Ben Mosley chipped in four and Riley Chaffee notched two.

    "On Friday, the ball just wouldn't fall through the hoop," said Lakers Coach Ryan Fox. "On Saturday, the team played much better."

    Mackinac Island will entertain Hannahville during a weekend series Friday, December 10, and Saturday, December 11.
