Tiernan Trades Badge for Midnight Marine Service
Officer Served Michigan State Police 32 Years

Officer George “Bud” Tiernan has retired from the Mackinac Island Police Department and now looks forward to starting up a new late-night boat service on the Island next summer. His last day on the force was Halloween evening, October 31.

Mr. Tiernan, who retired from the Michigan State Police after 32 years of service, spent four years with the Island police, mostly working the graveyard shift. While with the State Police, he was an evidence technician and a field training officer and was stationed at the St. Ignace post for nine years. He served on the Island during the summers of 1984 and 1985.

He is now earning his license to operate a small marine transportation business, to be called the Midnight Express, for next summer. He hopes to provide ferry service to visitors who would like to stay on the Island after normal boat departure hours. His 23-foot Well Craft boat can hold up to six passengers.
