Germany’s Schumanns Visit Island, Fish in Lake Huron

Reinhard Schumann (at right) of Bonn, Germany, nephew-in-law of the late Richard and Frances Hadden of Mackinac Island, caught this 25-pound salmon on Lake Huron. Pictured with him is fishing partner Bob Holmes of St. Ignace.
Reinhard and Eleanor Schumann of Bonn, Germany, visited Mackinac Island earlier this month, visiting friends and relatives and enjoying fishing in the Straits area.

Mrs. Schumann is the niece of the late Richard and Frances Hadden of Mackinac Island. The Schumanns, annual visitors of the Island, visited the Haddens’ graves during their stay.

Mr. Schumann enjoyed fishing in St. Ignace with Bob Holmes of St. Ignace, catching a 25-pound salmon on Lake Huron Thursday, September 23.

Mr. Schumann is a United States liaison officer in Germany and plans to retired in October.

The Haddens were well known pianists who were also involved with Moral Re-Armament (MRA), which is now known as Initiatives for Change.

The Haddens came to the Island with MRA and were on the faculty at Mackinac College until it closed in 1970. They were the first American artists to perform in Communist China after the Cultural Revolution.

Mr. Hadden died last July, while Mrs. Hadden passed away in May 2001.
