Rick Linn Appointed City Deputy Treasurer

Rick Linn
Rick Linn is Mackinac Island’s new deputy city treasurer, named by Treasurer Dorothy Dehring, who does not plan to run for a 13th term.

Mr. Linn, 48, was selected from four applicants Monday, February 7, by Mrs. Dehring and a three-person committee and will work under Mrs. Dehring until the election. He has filed to run for the office on May 3, against Ryan Fox and Carrie Kaminen, who have also filed petitions.

Originally from St. Louis, Michigan, Mr. Linn has been a year-around Island resident since 1993 and worked summers on the Island since 1976. He’s been a Medical Center employee and emergency medical technician since 1992.

Mr. Linn majored in accounting at Central Michigan University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 1990. He gained accounting experience working under Harry Ryba in the accounts receivable department at the Lake View Hotel and Island House.

He said he applied for the job because “I wanted to get back into the numbers business.”

Mayor Margaret Doud said Mr. Linn will likely be approved and deputized at Council’s next regular meeting Wednesday, February 16.

Mrs. Dehring, who has been the city’s treasurer since 1992, will work the remainder of her one-year term, which ends May 3. She will train Mr. Linn in the meantime.

As deputy treasurer, Mr. Linn will be paid a wage of $7.87 per hour, working 20 hours a week. He will continue to work for the Medical Center.
