Mark Gallagher Scholarship Dinner Raises $1,514

The fourth annual Mark Gallagher Scholarship dinner and talent show, held February 27 at Community Hall, raised $1,514.38. Haley Armstrong and Adrienne Rilenge performed the song “Breakaway” for the talent show and the 50/50 raffle was won by Larry Parel.

Dinner was prepared by Tim Leeper, assisted in the kitchen by Laura McLaren, Dan Seeley, Leanne Brodeur, and Robin and Kelly Dorman. Tracie Mardock and Jennie Shanku assisted with ticket sales.

Dinner included a variety of quiche, baked ham with pineapple and ginger, and cheese and vegetable pasta, with desserts provided by the community.

The Mark Gallagher Scholarship Fund was established by the residents of Mackinac Island in memory of Mark Gallagher, who died of cancer just after his 21st birthday. Mr. Gallagher had wanted to be a policeman and the scholarship is meant to support a student’s pursuit of law enforcement career or, when this is not possible, to support a high school graduate from Mackinac Island in higher education.

The scholarship fund is endowed with the Mackinac Island Community Foundation.
