A successful year in scouting was celebrated Wednesday, May 4, at a potluck hosted by parents at Mackinac Island Public School’s cafeteria. Guests of honor were members of the Island’s Brownie troop, second graders Mackenzie Bean, Meadow Greenlee, Kyra Kolatski, and Dana Roguski, and third graders Hailey Armstrong, Adrienne Rilenge, and Amelia Roe.

Special awards were presented to the third graders for completion of the junior scouting program. Mackenzie Bean was presented an award for selling the most boxes of Girl Scout cookies, 269, while Meadow Greenlee and Kyra Kolatski received good sportsmanship awards for sharing their mothers, Julie Greenlee and Kim Kolatski, with all the scouts. Mrs. Kolatski and Mrs. Greenlee are the scout leaders.

The planetarium in Sault St. Marie was one of many places the scouts visited this year. They also attended Dancercise, exercise classes that involve dancing, for which they received a Brownie Try-It badge. In addition, this year’s Brownie troop held a cookie rally at Mrs. Kolatski’s house, enjoyed a restaurant night, and shared secret Valentines.
