Town Meeting Planned on Park Funding Cuts Friday

State Representative Fran Amos (R-Waterford) will host a town hall meeting at the Island House Hotel Friday, May 27, to discuss proposed funding cuts for Mackinac Island State Park.

“The entire state is proud of Mackinac Island and the wonderful historic attraction it continues to be,” said Representative Amos. “The governor’s proposed budget makes drastic cuts in the operating budget for the state park, totaling approximately $1.5 million.”

Representative Amos, chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on History, Arts and Libraries, believes funding the park is an essential investment in attracting tourism to Michigan.

“I think it is important to hear from those directly involved how these proposed cuts could impact the historic landmarks, businesses, tourism, and residents. I invite everyone to attend and express their opinion,” she said.

The town hall meeting will be at 10 a.m. in the hotel’s main floor conference room.
