Contemporary Concert Series Begins

Lavel Jackson
The first of a series of free concerts featuring contemporary Christian music will begin Saturday, June 11, with gospel recording artist Lavel Jackson of Saginaw and gospel Hip Hop recording artist Rockiano of Detroit. The two musicians will present a blending of music styles, including rhythm and blues, dance, Hip Hop, and rap.

Mr. Jackson has been heard on nationally syndicated television shows such as Family Matters, Sister Sister, and Dangerous Minds. His music has been influenced by Sam Cooke, Al Green, Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, and Dawkins and Dawkins. He also has performed with Tammy Trent, Salvador, RiZen, Disciples Indeed, Mainline, Larue Hill, and the Chicago

Rockiano
Mass Choir.

Rockiano’s Hip Hop music focuses on uplifting and inspiring messages.

"Kids all over America love Hip Hop music,” he said. “It seems to speak to this generation because of its unique, in-your-face approach. Unfortunately, most of the music today has totally inappropriate subject matter and the music has gotten away from its roots and true art form.”

The concert Saturday, June 11, begins at 9 p.m. at Mission Point Resort Theatre. The show is sponsored by Mackinac Island Bible Church, which plans three additional concerts this summer. The church Web site is mibc.org.
