Ben Mosley Sr.
Eulogy
By Jeannette Doud

Island friends mourn the loss of another member of our community. Ben Mosley Sr., age 79, died peacefully at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Louann Mosley Jr. on Friday, June 10, surrounded by those who loved him dearly. He has spent numerous years on Mackinac. In later years, due to a heart condition he stayed close to his Mackinac family, where he received tender loving care, especially from his grandchildren. His son, Ben, and his family were in the process of building an addition on their home in Harrisonville so that their beloved father and grandfather could be with them.

I would like to remember Mr. Mosley as a very dapper gentleman, dressed in his cutaway coat and high top hat sitting atop the seat of the very plush, white wedding carriage with its two prancing hackney horses, escorting the happy brides to the church on time. He was a very distinguished figure as we watched him get ready for the big events in the Chambers Stables on Cadotte Avenue. These are great memories not soon to be forgotten. Mr. Mosley loved the Island and especially the horses. Although he was semi-retired, he much enjoyed his work with Jim and Dr. Bill Chambers. He will be sadly missed.

The family is carrying out Dad and Grampa Mosley’s wishes. Father Jim Williams celebrated his life at Ste. Anne’s Wednesday morning, June 15, at 11 a.m. Burial was on Mackinac.

To Mr. Mosley:

Your loved one has left you here,

Lonesome, sad at heart,

And yet we knew that time would come,

Someday, we’d have to part,

But if we, like Dad, can sail life’s sea,

Through rough and stormy weather,

There’ll come a time, we’ll be again,

Dad and us together.

Everyone on Mackinac sends deepest sympathy to the family.
