Alex’s Lemonade Stand was a huge success Saturday, June 11, despite uncooperative weather, including thunderstorms. The stand, organized by Sarah Johnson, was set up beside Trinity Church and dispensed free lemonade, brownies, cookies, and Rice Krispee treats in a nationally-coordinated effort to raise funds for research in pediatric cancer.
Ms. Johnson succeeded in remaining open all day, although the operation had to be moved to Main Street during the thunderstorm.
Ms. Johnson said many adults and children volunteered for the effort and she was amazed at the success of the stand.
“I’m so glad I didn’t set a goal, because any goal I set would never have been high enough,” she said. Donors contributed $820.74 on Saturday and Ms. Johnson said donations received later have brought the total to $1,000.
