OBITUARY
Harold Sack

Harold Jesse Sack, who help build the Moral Re-Armament complex at Mission Point, died in Tucson, Arizona, June 21, 2005.

He was born in Savannah, Georgia, February 1, 1912.

He and his wife, Barbara, made their home in Tucson for the last 38 years, living at El Encanto Condominium for many years and moving in 2003 to Atria Campana del Rio. In the course of their marriage, the couple collaborated on building several homes, including one in Mexico, one in Alpine, Arizona, and on the building of Columbia Mobile Home Park in Tucson. They traveled frequently overseas to visit friends and family. Until his health declined late in 2004, Mr. Sack was an active member of the Rotary Club of Tucson.

Mr. Sack attended public school in Savannah and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin/Stout and a master’s in meteorology from California Institute of Technology.

He taught drafting at Savannah High School for seven years.

During World War II, Mr. Sack served as a 1st Lieutenant in the 14th AAF in China, as part of the Chinese-American Composite Wing (Flying Tigers). After the war, he participated in the global work of Moral Re-Armament, which carried him to numerous nations. His most notable service to that organization was done in the 1950s, when he worked with other professionals to create its conference center on Mackinac Island. In this endeavor, he worked with architects William Woollett of Los Angeles, California, and Edwin R. Cromwell of Little Rock, Arkansas. Today those buildings form the core of Mission Point Resort.

Mr. Sack and his first wife, Marie Joy Sanger, made their home on Mackinac Island for 17 years and she is buried here.

Mr. Sack is survived by his second wife, Barbara Menninger Sack; a sister-in-law, Suzanne Felker; a niece, Professor Jocelyn Sack Reite; three grandnieces and their families, Jocelyn Reiter and Rudy Casillas of Tucson, Arizona, Dr. Erica Reiter Wadley of Seattle, Washington, and Elena Reiter and Tim Sellers of Redmond, Washington, and by many other family members in Georgia and South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Augustus Sack and Abigail Phillips Sack, and a brother, Donald H. (Ella Robertson) Sack.

A funeral was held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Tucson Friday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m. Graveside services were held at the Sack Family plot in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia, Wednesday, June 29, at 2 p.m.
