Island Suffers Second Outage in Two Weeks A power outage Saturday, July 2, caused many residents to flock outside to cooler temperatures. Areas affected by the outage were Harrisonville, West Bluff, Fort Mackinac, East Bluff, and Mission Point. The power went out at 8:30 p.m. and was restored two hours later, said Craig Davidson, St. Ignace division manager of Edison Sault Electric Company. He said the problem was caused by a squirrel that got into some of the electrical equipment behind Mission Point Resort. This was the second power outage in two weeks, and Mr. Davidson said both outages were caused by animals getting into equipment and causing the network to short. Squirrels are not native to Mackinac Island. They were brought here from Bois Blanc Island in the early 1970s.
