Island Ranks in Top 10 Dog Friendly Resorts

According to dogfriendly. com, Mackinac Island is among the top 10 dog-friendly resorts in North America. In fact, it is the seventh, followed by St. Augustine, Florida, Acadia/Bar Harbor, Maine, and Hocking Hills, Ohio, on the third annual list, which the Web site posted in June.

The top destination is Monterey/Carmel, California.

Mackinac Island now maintains a list on the site of its dog friendly accommodations, attractions, transportation, parks, and restaurants.

Len Kain, co-founder of the site, said his staff looks for outdoor activities and ease of travel with dogs when ranking resorts.

Dogfriendly.com, which was started in 1998, has published pet travel guides for dogs in the United States and Canada since 2002. According to Mr. Kain, more than one million people visit the site annually for information and tips on traveling with dogs.
