Teams, Questions Sought for 2nd Island Trivia Bowl
The event will be Thursday, July 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mission Point Resort Theater. Mackinac Associates is still looking for teams. Each team should have three members, and seven teams are needed. Marta Olson, president of the Mackinac Associates, recommends well-rounded teams. “If you mix up people who just came years ago and know the business community, people who live here year-around, people born and raised on the Island, you should really be able to cover all the bases of the contest,” she said. To register a team, contact Diane Dombroski at Mackinac State Historic Parks in Mackinaw City at (231) 435-4100. Associates are looking for individual and corporate team sponsors, shooting for $100 each, and for prize donations. Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams and to all participants. All those wishing to sponsor a team or donate to the effort should contact Ms. Dombroski. The Associates also are looking for questions for the Trivia Bowl. Questions can range from historical events to present-day facts and figures. All questions should concern Mackinac Island or the Straits of Mackinac region. There will also be multimedia questions, in which contestants will have to correctly identify a photograph or sound clip. All questions should be directed to Ms. Olson through her e-mail at martaolson@mintakadesign.com. There is no cost of admission to the event, but spectators and participants can buy numbers to support a team. A drawing of the numbers for the winning team will earn a prize to the ticket holder. Island comic Stu Stuart will emcee the event, returning from last year, and Phil Porter, director of Mackinac State Historic Parks, will once again act as a “historical guru” for the event and will be the final authority to settle all disputes.
