Internet Scam Surfaces on Island

Michigan State Police from the St. Ignace Post warn Mackinac Island residents about an Internet scam that has resurfaced on the Island.

The e-mail scam involves bilking unsuspecting residents out of money by announcing a contest has been won and to secure and process contest winnings, which total $1 million, money first must be sent to the contest headquarters.

Police advise that if such an e-mail is received, do not respond to it and delete the e-mail.

Questions may be directed to the State Police in St. Ignace at 643-7582.
