New Homes, Revisions OK’d by Planning Commission

The Mackinac Island Planning Commission approved three site plan revisions and two new single family homes at its Tuesday, July 12 meeting.

Commissioners approved an amendment revision from developer Susan Lundgren for Forest Bluff Condos. The revised site plan includes more land and seven lots which will share a community septic system. Initially, the health department had been concerned about the planned five-lot development that called for separate septic systems, said Zoning Administrator Dennis Dombroski. The new site plan complies with city ordinances, he advised commissioners.

Sally and Tom McGovern Forest Ridge revised their home plan to include more natural landscaping and field stone retaining walls, which received approval from commissioners.

Approved, also, were minor changes made by Ralph Leno for his already-approved site plan in the Mission area. The changes include a walkway that originally was to be a boardwalk, but was changed to brick pavers. Mr. Leno also added a one-foot-high timber retaining wall to hold back grading by the drive easement.

A single family home at Stonecliffe Manor III Association, lot 16, for Jennifer and Dan Woletz was approved by commissioners.

Commissioners approved a single family home plan at Stonecliffe Manor I Association for Jason St. Onge, contingent on a change that would confirm the turret and roof meet the height requirements. During further discussion after the meeting between Mr. Dombroski and City Attorney Tom Evashevski, it was determined the home did meet requirements and no change was required. Mr. Evashevski will advise the Planning Commission at its next meeting that the plans presented did meet all zoning requirements.

The Planning Commission next meets Tuesday, August 9, at 3 p.m. at City Hall.
