Community Foundation To Set Up Ambulance Fund

The Mackinac Island Community Foundation has established a holding fund to collect money for a new city ambulance. Those wishing to donated should make checks to the Community Foundation Ambulance Fund.

The Community Foundation is hosting the fund as a service to the community and will not be charging an administration fee, said Executive Director Jennifer Bloswick.

“We saw a need in the community, and we will be fulfilling that need,” said Ms. Bloswick. “This is our contribution to the effort.”

The responsibility for the purchase of the ambulance lies with the city. According to Mayor Margaret Doud, a committee already has been created to discuss the necessary equipment and type of ambulance needed.

The current ambulance was purchased in 1988 and replacement parts for the truck and medical unit are becoming difficult to find.

The estimated cost for the new emergency vehicle is $75,000.
