Jim Lenfesty To Speak at Grand Marais Aug. 21

Jim Lenfestey
East Bluff cottager and author Jim Lenfestey will share his observations of life at Campbell Street Gallery in Grand Marais Sunday, August 21, at 5 p.m. as part of the gallery’s Summer Series. A fourth anniversary party for the gallery will follow.

Mr. Lenfestey published three collections of poems in 2004, “Saying Grace,” “Affection for Spiders,” and “Odalisque,” and, this fall, will publish his collection of poems in the tradition of his literary mentor, Chinese Zen poet Han-shan.

In 2000, he published “The Urban Coyote: Howlings on Family, Community and the Search for Peace and Quiet.”

He also chairs the Literary Witnesses poetry program in Minneapolis, and is organizing the Mackinac Island Poetry Festival for the summer of 2006.

Campbell Street Gallery is on the corner of Campbell and Carlson streets, one block west of the Lake Superior Brewing Company.

The gallery is owned by Maeve Croghan and Stu Stuart of Mackinac Island.

Other events at the gallery include “Folias,” a Flamenco guitar and flute duo, Sunday, August 7, at 5 p.m., and John Latini, winner of the Detroit Songwriting Contest, Thursday, August 11, at 5 p.m. Tickets for these two events are $12.50 at the door. The Lenfestey talk and anniversary celebration is free.
