Folias Presents Unique Tango

Carmen Maret and Andrew Bergeron are ‘Folias.’
The flute and guitar duo known as Folias performed on Mackinac Island Sunday, July 31, at Ste. Anne’s Catholic Church. Andrew Bergeron on guitar and Carmen Maret on the flute, both from Michigan, perform with an Argentine flavor. Sunday, they performed a series of tangos, all of which they arranged, plus an original piece and several compositions by classical composer Astor Piazzolla.

Flute and guitar are not a common pairing of instruments, so finding pieces for the duo to play can be difficult, said Mr. Bergeron. Their concert featured only two songs which were written for guitar and flute; the rest were written for other combinations of instruments, but adapted by Folias. The duo also sold copies of their recent CD after the performance.

The concert was sponsored by the Mackinac Island Community Foundation and the Mackinac Arts Council and is a part of a summer classical concert series. This was the second concert in the series and will be followed by the London Trio Sunday, August 7 at 2 p.m. at the Mackinac Island Public Library.

All performances of the series are free and open to the public.
