Horsemen’s Association Raises Funds With Two Weekend Sales

“You just never know what you’ll find,” says Ginny Smoot, who works at the Michigan Peddler, as she looks at an antique table crumb pan, which, used with a brush, is a convenient way to dispose of crumbs.
The past two weekends have been profitable for the Mackinac Horsemen’s Association, which received the proceeds from a tack sale and a yard sale.

The Tack Sale was Saturday, July 23, at Chamber’s Paddock, with donated equestrian items, from brushes to saddles, selling from 25¢ to $400.

The yard sale last Saturday, July 30, drew a crowd even before it officially opened at 9 a.m., and those who arrived early were put to work, helping volunteers set up donated items, which ranged from books and bedding to coffee pots, blenders, and lawn furniture.

Yard sale volunteers pose with items sold Saturday, July 30, at Richard and Jane Manoogian’s Pine Cottage to benefit the Mackinac Horsemen’s Association. The sale was held at Pine Cottage and hosted by Jane Manoogian, who provided donuts for visitors and ensured that everyone had a good time hunting for “treasures.”

The Mackinac Horsemen’s Association was established in 1998 and is dedicated to promoting horse culture on Mackinac Island.
