Park Gets County Endorsement

Mackinac State Historic Parks received a resolution of support from the Mackinac County Board of Commissioners Thursday, July 28. Commissioners will send a copy of the resolution to the director of the Department of History, Arts and Libraries, members of the Michigan Legislature, and Governor Jennifer Granholm.

The resolution requests that the Michigan Legislature continues to maintain the integrity of the region’s economy and promote cultural tourism by reinstating the $1.5 million state appropiation to Mackinac Island State Historic Parks. Earlier this year, the governor proposed the appropriation be eliminated to help offset a severe state budget deficit. The legislature must adopt the state’s fiscal year 2006 budget by October 1.
