Carrs Enjoy Anniversary Island Visit

Jim and Carilon Carr of Grand Rapids made their annual summer visit to Mackinac Tuesday, August 9. They are celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Carr’s mother, Bertha Bensen, taught kindergarten at Ozark and St. Ignace in the 1920s and married Arnold Hopperstead in St. Ignace in 1923.

Mr. Carr was a civil engineer for Williams and Works of Grand Rapids and his name is on the original blueprints for the airport runway lighting.

Mrs. Carr has been coming to the Island since she was two years old.

They enjoy Candi Dunnigan’s articles on horses and miss the Town Crier map of the Island, which has been undergoing revision.

“I think latitude and longitude should be on the map, too,” said Mrs. Carr.
