Golfers Do Battle at Wawashkamo Golf Club

Wawashkamo Golf Club hosted the Battle Day Tournament Saturday, August 6, the first Saturday after the date of the Battle of Mackinac Island, which occured August 4, 1814.

This year’s tournament featured a full field of 40 players in two separate divisions, a scramble division, and the Callaway division.

First place in the scramble division went to the team of Doug Rearick and John Chadwick, with a score of 69.

Second place was a two-way tie at 70 between the team of Lou Bunker and Clay Fuller, and the team of David Levy and Todd Callewaert. Fourth place went to Al Arbib and Barry Pierson.

A three-way tie took place in the Calloway Division, though places were awarded. First place went to Steve Murray and David Fox, with a score of 68. Rusty Preston and Russ (Grampa) Preston took second, while the team of Larry Parel and John Manikoff took third.

Closest to the pin went to Rusty Preston on the fourth hole. Closest to the pin in three shots went to the team of Bob Andress and Cub Horn on the fifth hole.

The team of Al Arbib and Barry Pierson came closest to the pin in two shots on the 12th hole.

The longest putt was made on the 18th hole by Mike Compton.
