Navy Jazz Band To Perform Sept. 4, 5

The Navy Jazz Band will be performing over the Labor Day weekend at various Island locations. The Jazz Band is part of the 45-member professional “Navy Band Great Lakes” that performs in an 11-state area from Michigan to North Dakota. It was created in 1917 by Lieutenant Commander John Philip Sousa.

The 18-member Jazz Ensemble features popular big band hits and contemporary jazz. Their repertoire includes music by such masters as Hank Levy, Thad Jones, Don Menza, Glen Miller, and Count Basie, as well as music written by the band's own staff arrangers. Vocal and instrumental selections are featured in all performances.

On Sunday, September 4, they will perform at noon at Fort Mackinac and at 8 p.m. at Windermere Point. On Monday, September 5, they will be on the front porch of Grand Hotel at 1 p.m.
