Chambers Wins Labor Day Regatta

Racers enjoyed cruising past ArchRock and other Island landmarks in the regatta.
Islander Mark Chambers won the 11th Annual Horn’s Bar Labor Day Regatta around Mackinac Island. The yachting event was held in near-perfect sailing conditions Sunday, September 4, and the finish proved to be exciting, with sailors dodging freighters and ferry boats while jockeying to be first to finish, said David Rowe, one of the race competitors.

Mr. Chambers sailed his winning boat, Snow Goose , at a corrected finish of 1 hour, 29 minutes, 34 seconds. His crew included Steve Humphrey and Pope Johnson, both of Columbia, South Carolina.

Coming in second place was Rick Luxon of Atlanta, Michigan, third place went to Bart Huthwaite Sr. of Mackinac Island, and fourth and fifth place went to Dave Nordstrom and David Rowe, both of Mackinac.

Awards were presented at Mackinac Island Yacht Club following the race. Race sponsors Patti Ann and Steve Moskwa of Horn’s Bar provided food and refreshments for skippers, crew, and family members.
