Sally Chambers McConnell
Sally Chambers McConnell, 78, passed away Wednesday, September 21, at her home in Milford, Connecticut. She was born November 6, 1927 in the Chambers homestead on Cadotte Avenue. It was here on Mackinac that she lived for many years, romping and playing with her three brothers, Bud, Dr. Bill, and James P. Chambers. Sally met her late husband, Tom, on Mackinac when he was stationed with the U.S. Coast Guard, just another of those Island romances. Following their marriage at Ste. Anne’s, they moved to Tom’s home in Connecticut. He and Sally became the parents of four beautiful daughters, Betty, Mary, Sally, and Lisa, who all chose a medical profession. After Tom passed away, Sally would come each summer to join her mother, Sara, and help her brothers in the Mackinac Island Carriage Tours office. Sally and I grew up together. She was my shadow each day, having a wonderful time. We each had a pet dog that we walked and played with, along with others in the barnyard. Our time together is one of my most precious memories. She was a beautiful young lady who had radiant red hair and I loved her dearly. Survivors include her daughters and their families and her brothers, Bud, Bill, and Jim, and their families. Deepest sympathy from everyone on Mackinac. Sally took time to laugh, it was the music of her soul, and to be friendly was her road to happiness. As I view the setting sun each evening, Sally, I shall always think of you, my special cousin. There are those whose lives remind us of the sunset’s warming glow, They leave a touch of glory lingering after when they go.
