Dartball Hits Island Dartball hits the Island with an organizational meeting Wednesday, December 21, at 7 p.m. in Community Hall. Sponsored by the Mackinac Island Recreation Department (MIRD), the game is open to all ages, from high school on up. Dartball is similar to baseball in scoring and rules, said Richard Bolander, who is introducing the game to Mackinac to help fill the long winter with social activities. Players stand 20 feet away from a four-foot square board and throw feathered darts under-hand at the board to score hits, strikes, balls, fouls, and outs, all according to where the dart lands. There are generally nine players on a team, though teams may agree to fewer players, he said. This new activity is part of the city Recreation Department’s winter schedule of programs. For more information, contact Richard Bolander at 847-8274, or show up at the meeting December 21.
