Mary Milton Eulogy
By Jeannette Doud

Many years ago, Mary and Dr. Robert Milton and their three children, Jill, Suzanne, and David, came to Mackinac each summer after purchasing a beautiful West Bluff cottage, which had a magnificent view of the Straits of Mackinac. In later years, they sold the cottage to Richard Manoogian and built a smaller home deep in the wooded area near Hubbard’s Annex. Upon the death of Dr. Milton, Mary sold her cottage and returned to Dearborn, where she died suddenly Wednesday, November 16.

Mary was active in many organizations on Mackinac. Being an avid horsewoman, she had her own horses, which she rode daily up and through the beautiful wooded trails of the Island. She also was in charge of the horse show, which is held each August.

The Milton family truly loved Mackinac. It was here that their children, Jill, Susie, and David, quickly made friends, spending many happy summers here.

For many years, Dr. Milton’s position with Union Carbide took them to foreign countries during the winter, but they returned to Mackinac each summer.

Sadly, daughter, Jill, died several years ago in Salt Lake City, Utah. High on the hillside, in the Island cemetery, Dr. Milton and Jill rest in peace.

In the springtime on Mackinac, when the wildflowers, the daisies, myrtle, lilies of the valley, and trilliums cover the ground and the birds begin to sing their joyful tunes, Mary will be buried beside her beloved husband and daughter.

Deepest sympathy to the family from Island friends.
