Brenda Bunker Is Named Island’s Volunteer of Year

Brenda Bunker is the Mackinac Island Recrea-tion Department volunteer of the year.
Brenda Bunker, the city’s Volunteer of the Year, donates her time to the activities of Mackinac Island Recreational Development (MIRD), Mackinac Arts Council, the Mackinac Is-land Community Found-ation, and Mackinac Island Public Schools.

“Whether it is assisting with a funeral luncheon, running the programs at the Winter Festival, organizing the concessions for the Guns and Hoses Softball Game or the Frank Horn Memorial Softball Game, selling raffle tickets for every nonprofit organization on Mackinac Island, or organizing children’s activities on the Fourth of July, Brenda is always there, ready to lend a hand,” wrote Jennifer Blos-wick, Community Foun-dation executive director, in her letter supporting Ms. Bunker’s nomination.

Jack Dehring, superintendent of Mackinac Island Public Schools, agreed.

“As a volunteer treasurer for MIRD, as well as a helper at other community events and for other community organizations, she has proven her worth to the Mackinac Island community,” he said.

Mayor Margaret Doud announced the award during the Christmas Bazaar, Mon-day, December 5, at Comm-unity Hall and Ms. Bunker will be recognized by the city with a resolution and a plaque.
