Vanessa Smith, Kenneth Hardy, Jr.

Vanessa and Kenneth Hardy,Jr.
Vanessa Smith and Kenneth Hardy, Jr., both of Mackinac Island, were united in marriage Friday, October 14, 2005, at Ste. Anne’s Catholic Church.

The bride is the daughter of Candace Smith and the late William Smith of Mackinac Island. The groom is the son of Nancy and Kenneth Hardy of St. Ignace.

The bride wore a floor length, satin gown with a tied corset bodice. Her veil was satin trimmed and finished with a sparkling tiara, and she carried a bouquet of tipped white roses. She wore the wedding band of her grandmother, Evangeline Horn, and Swarovski crystal jewelry, hand made by her cousin, Kathy Hamlin.

The bride’s attendants wore matching floor length, amethyst chiffon dresses.

Pollyanna Smith of Mackinac Island served as the maid of honor for her sister and Robyn Gransow of Grand Rapids was the matron of honor. Tyling Mokanyk of Traverse City, Trista Horn of Mackinac, and Desiree Nordstrand of St. Ignace served as bridesmaids. The attendants all wore jewelry handmade by Mrs. Mokanyk. Cassandra Frazier served as the flower girl and Hunter Brown and Jalen Gransow, young cousins of the bride, served as ring bearers.

Best men were Robert Goedertier of Detroit and Terrence O’Connor of Royal Oak. Groomsmen included Clark Smith of St. Ignace, James Hardy, brother of the groom, of Huron, Ohio, and Todd Summerhays of Grand Rapids. The bride’s uncle, Tim Horn, and sons Tymon and Leo Horn served as ushers.

The bride was escorted down the aisle by her brother, Kirk Smith, and Nancy and Edward Pfeiffelman lit a memorial candle honoring her father, Bill Smith. Immediately following the ceremony, the couple released a dozen white doves from the balcony of the Church.

A dinner reception was held at the Mackinac Island Community Hall, where friends and family dined and danced until midnight.

The newlyweds reside on Mackinac Island, where Mr. Hardy is a veteran police officer and Mrs. Hardy is a manager at Harrisonville General store.
