Island Featured on ‘The View’

Mackinac Island was featured on ABC’s “The View” Wednesday, January 4, as one of the top five places to lose weight. The program is broadcast live by ABC at 11 a.m. Monday through Friday from New York City and features Barbara Walters. The show included Mackinac Island for its unique transportation culture that encourages daily exercise.

“We are very interested in profiling Mackinac Island as one of the featured towns due to the lack of motorized vehicles,” said Caryn Pollock, a producer for Barbara Corcoran Productions. “Everyone is required to walk and ride bicycles; therefore, getting the much-needed exercise that so many Americans lack these days.”

Barbara Corcoran, founder of the Corcoran Group, rated the top five places based on nearly 3,700 suggestions from competitive brokers and from selected neighborhoods throughout the country.

Here are the top rated places to lose weight: 1) Old Quebec City, Canada, 2) Mackinac Island, 3) Turnberry Isle, Florida, 4) Port Townsend, Washington, 5) Shipshewana, Indiana.

“Mackinac Island is so beautiful and is indeed a great place to get fit and stay healthy,” said Mary Slevin, Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau’s executive director.

“The View” is in its ninth season and is moderated by Meredith Vieira, a former chief correspondent for ABC News’ “Turning Point,” Star Jones Reynolds, comedian Joy Behar, and former “Survivor” participant Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The show features national news, celebrity interviews, and general entertainment.
