Lawrence Weston

Lawrence Weston Lawrence Weston Lawrence Richard Weston, 74, of Stalwart worked as a heavy equipment operator at a Cedarville limestone quarry for more than 30 years, as well as a long-time logger and truck driver. As a young man, he drove a taxi on Mackinac Island.

Mr. Weston died Thursday, July 6, 2006, at his home.

He was born January 22, 1932, in Cedarville to Carl Victor Richard and Violet Clara (nee Horka) Weston. His family lived in Dearborn Heights until they moved to Cedarville when he was 14.

For more than 30 years, he worked as a heavy equipment operator for United States Steel at the Limestone Quarry in Cedarville.

In his spare time he logged as well as cut and delivered thousands of cords of firewood until retiring from the quarry in 1985.

Not being one to sit still for long, he soon began over the road truck driving for several years.

Mr. Weston also enjoyed fishing, camping with his family, going to the casino, and traveling.

Mr. Weston is survived by his wife, Donna Maude (nee Smith), whom he married August 6, 1966, in Cedarville; two daughters and their families, Roseanna and Casey Jones of Goetzville, and Amy Weston Goetz and Kyle Thomas of Stalwart; one son and his family, Mark and Sarah Weston of East Jordan; one stepson and his family, Gerald "Buddy" and Louise Stefanski of Stalwart; grandchildren and their families, Donald and Terri Crawford, Jeremy and Jean Crawford, Joe Smith, Melissa Smith and Mike Huffman, Rose Smith and Randy Johnson, Kristofer Stefanski, Tony Stefanski, Mike Stefanski, Eric Stefanski, Aaron Weston, Nikki Weston, Korin Goetz, and Lauren Goetz; and 13 great-grandchildren, Donna, Tessa, Samantha, Christopher, Heidi, Ethan, Reid, Jerry, Dakota, Cory, Cheyenne, Charles, and Michelle. Also surviving is his brother in-law, Kenny Fisher of Cedarville.

Mr. Weston was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Shirley Loraine Fotch Brooks and Judith Ann Fisher; and by two infant children, Lawrence Richard and Michelle Marie Weston.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford with Randy Dunn officiating. The family received friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Interment was at Cedar Cemetery in Cedarville.
