Foundation Taking Grant Applications

With approximately $104,000 available in spring grant money for nonprofit organizations, the Mackinac Island Community Foundation will make grant applications available beginning Wednesday, March 1.

Applications can be picked up in the Foundation office in the Twilight Inn and are due by Saturday, April 15.

Grants will be awarded Saturday, May 13.

“We are anticipating a very active year of grant making on Mackinac Island,” said Foundation Executive Director Jennifer Bloswick. “Our groups are coming up with many good ideas for grants and I am so pleased we are able to help bring these ideas to life.”

The spring schedule has been modified this year to make it easier for applicants, said Mrs. Bloswick.

The application deadline has been pushed back two weeks to give applicants more time to complete the forms.

In addition, the grant awards will be announced two weeks earlier in May, giving recipients more time to make use of the funds as the summer season gets underway, explained Mrs. Bloswick.

The Community Foundation provides grants from earned income on endowed funds. Many of the funds have been created by donors to support programs in specific areas of interest, such as health and human services, community arts, youth activities, the environment, conservation, historical writing and preservation, and horses.

Grand applications also can be found online at www.micf.org.
