George Griffin Jr. George Griffin Jr. of Boyne City grew up on Mackinac Island, where he drove carriages and worked on the "head boats," passenger ferries, and at the golf course. He also served six years in the United States Coast Guard during World War II, and worked 50 years as a brick mason. Mr. Griffin died at the age of 86 Friday, March 3, 2006, at his home in Boyne City. He was born July 9, 1919, on Mackinac Island, to George and Helen (nee Lapine) Griffin Sr. He married the former Mildred Alene Scranton November 27, 1943, and she preceded him in death May 24, 1984. Mr. Griffin moved to Boyne City in 1985. Mr. Griffin enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, traveling to Florida, and boating. He is survived by two children and their families, George and Roberta Griffin of Cape Coral, Florida, and Lynda Jane and Victor Specht of Alva, Florida; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and his cousin, Pat Redmann of Boyne City. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Pete, Ted, and John Griffin, and two sisters, Ann Kamradt and Pauline Griffin. Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. of East Jordan assisted the family with arrangements. |
