Many Island Attractions Voted State's Best Mackinac Island figured prominently in a reader poll of Michigan's Best 2006 in The Detroit News, in which 105,000 people cast ballots over five weeks. The results appeared in a special insert Wednesday, May 10, with the following area establishments appearing: Mustang Lounge took first place and Pink Pony Bar and Grill took second place as the Best Place to Kick Back and Shoot the Breeze. Mackinac Island took first place as the Best Biking Community in Michigan. Mackinac Island Marina was voted first place as the Best Marina in Michigan. The Pink Pony Bar and Grill took first place and the Mustang Lounge took second place as the Best Place to Experience a Small Midwestern Town's Night Out. Mission Point Resort was ranked second place as the Best Workout Spot. The Mackinac Bridge was first place and Round Island Lighthouse was third place as the Best Michigan Landmark. Wawashkamo Golf Club was voted second place as the Best Public Golf Course in Michigan. Cottage Inn was voted first place and Metivier Inn was voted third place as the Best Cozy Bed and Breakfast. Mackinac Island dominated the Best Fudge Shop category, with Joann's Fudge ranking in first, Ryba's Fudge in second, and Murdick's Fudge Kitchen in third. The Island also dominated the Best Ferry to Mackinac Island category. First place went to Arnold Transit Company, second went to Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry, and third place went to Star Line Mackinac Island Ferry. Round Island Lighthouse took first place in the Best Lighthouse category. The Island took third place as the Best Reason for Going Up North, behind camping and scenery. Hotel Iroquois took second place and The Harbor View Dining Room took third place for the Best Restaurant Overall. Amy Garcia from Horn's Gaslight Bar took third place for the Best Bartender. Yankee Rebel Tavern receive second place for the Best Hidden Hangout. Horn's Gaslight Bar took third place for Best Photos on Bar Walls. |
