Wawashkamo Members Enjoy Golf in Sunshine State

About 40 people, many of them members of Wawashkamo Golf Course on Mackinac Island, enjoyed a weekend of golf in Florida at the Professional Golf Association's courses in St. Lucie West this February. (Photographs courtesy of Chelie Stingel Casey)

Fifty members of the Mackinac Island's Wawashkamo Golf Course gathered at the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Village at St. Lucie West, Florida, for three days of golfing, February 21 to 23. The group called themselves the Wawa Wackers and played a nine-hole, mixed event every other Wednesday on the Island from mid-June to mid-September. This winter, they decided to take their fun to Florida, said Fred "Fritz" George, Wawashkamo's PGA professional.

The group played an 18hole scramble on the PGA's South Course and another on the North Course.

"The Mackinac people are special, and it was great to have that many of my members get together and have such a good time," said Mr. George.

Dan and Jamie Dickens hosted the group at their home.

2nd Place (70): Randy Stuck, Dave Sheppard, Nina Huthwaite, and Cynthia Cawthorne.

3rd Place (two-way tie) (72): Bernie Shirle, Tony Spata, Jamie Dickens, and Cammie Hart; Bob Andress, Orv Reid, Kathy Andress, and Jane Bacon.

4th Place: Bob Benser Jr., Janet Stingel, Sue Chambers, and Mary Callewaert.

1st Place (two-way tie) (69): Dave Sheppard, Karen Karam, Jamie Dickens, and Jan Vining; Steven Moskwa, Orv Reid, Debra Orr, and Mary Callewaert.

2nd Place (three-way tie) (71): Troy Dean, Michelle Stuck, Chelie Stingel, and Mary Dufina; Rusty Preston, Bill Chambers, Jane Bacon, and Nancy Marstiller; Larry Berke, Michael Bacon, Cynthia Cawthorne, and Sandra Orr.

3rd Place: Ron Dufina, Dan Dickens, Rena Callewaert, and Cammie Hart.
