New Fort Mackinac Book Published for Young Readers

This new Fort Mackinac book for young readers is set in 1885 and tells the story of 14year-old Jack Murphy's discovery of loyalty, family, and forgiveness. In "Home to Mackinac," the teenager travels to Mackinac Island and unravels family secrets, learning about the mother he never knew and a father who was a soldier at Fort Mackinac.
Readers will learn about Michigan history, and about the meshing of Native American and European cultures in the late 1800s.
This book is the 100th publication from Mackinac State Historic Parks since 1962. Alesson plan is being prepared to accompany "Home to Mackinac," which will allow teachers to incorporate it into classroom curriculum.
Written by Kim Delmar Cory and illustrated by Laura Evans, "Home to Mackinac" retails for $9.95 softcover. The book is available at any Mackinac State Historic Park museum store and in bookstores across Michigan.
Kim Delmar Cory resides in Lansing with her family. She has taught writing at Lansing Community College for more than 15 years and presents writing workshops at elementary schools across Michigan. "Home to Mackinac" is her third novel.
Laura Evans lives in lower Michigan with her family and also has illustrated the Mackinac State Historic Parks publication "Castle at the Straits."
