Theresa Bazinaw

Theresa Bazinaw
Theresa Bazinaw, 73, of Mackinac Island and St. Ignace, was a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and the Ste. Anne's Catholic Church of Mackinac Island.

Ms. Bazinaw passed away Friday evening, May 12, 2006, at Mackinac Straits Hospital Long Term Care facility, where she had been a patient for several years.

She was born on Mackinac Island October 27, 1932, to Alexander and Catherine (nee Chapman) Bazinaw. She was schooled on the island and helped raise many nieces and nephews. She worked for Carriage Tours for many years in the taxi office and also worked for the Island House.

Ms. Bazinaw is survived by two brothers, Joseph "Snapper" Bazinaw of Mackinac Island, and Ronald "Cushion" Bazinaw of Phoenix, Arizona; many nieces and nephews; greatnieces and nephews; and greatgreat nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by several brothers, Carl Bazinaw, George E. Bazinaw, John Bazinaw, Walter "Butch" Bazinaw, Clarence Bazinaw, and James "Beaver" Bazinaw; three sisters, Delia Perault, Emma Bazinaw, and Lorraine Camp.

Visitation was held Monday, May 15. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, May 16, at 11 a.m. at Ste. Anne's Catholic Church on Mackinac Island with Father Rey Garcia officiating.

Burial was at Ste. Anne's Cemetery.

Pallbearers included her nephews, Bret Horn, Bob Horn, Jack Perault, Jimmie Gillespie, Dean Gillespie Jr., and Clayton Bazinaw.

Dodson Funeral home assisted the family with arrangements.
