Grand Tennis Program To Begin

Grand Hotel will be starting a tennis program June 12, which will run until the end of August and is open to the public.

Classes will be held Monday and Wednesday, from 9:30 to 10 a.m., for children ages four to six, from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages seven to 10, and from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. for children 11 years and older.

There will also be an open practice for adults on Mondays, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

For children, the half-hour lesson will cost $7 per session. The hour session will be $12 and the adult session will be $15.

Private lessons are also being offered by tennis pro Jerry Murray.

Mr. Murray is from Livonia and played tennis while attending the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He currently attends Michigan State University and has been teaching tennis at country and athletic clubs since he was 15 years old.

Grand Hotel General Manager John Hulett said the hotel has not offered classes for a number of years because more emphasis was being put on golfing. Mr. Murray's experience in teaching, however, has prompted the new program as a service to guests and to Island residents.
