Festival's Feast of Epona Silent Auction Raises $968 A silent auction in celebration of the Feast of Epona was held Thursday, June 15, which raised $968 for an endowment to support animals. The Lilac Festival event was held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Seabiscuit and Grog Cafe. Auction items were donated by Mackinac Island Carriage Tours, the Mustang Lounge, and Chippewa Hotel. Lilacs & Lace donated handmade crafts, Mackinac Lapidary donated jewelry, and Seabiscuit contributed the refreshments. About 20 items were auctioned, including a four day, three night trip to Lexington, Kentucky, for three, including guided tours, accommodations, and visitor passes to the Rolex Kentucky Three-day Event. All proceeds from the auction benefit the Dr. Rex and Elizabeth C. Orr Fund for Animals, endowed with the Mackinac Island Community Foundation, which has provided vaccinations and preventative measures to safeguard Island animals from rabies, and also has helped purchase a school horse for the Mackinac Horsemen's Association and 4-H Club. Jennifer Bloswick, Mary K. McIntire, and Molly Carroll assisted with the event. |
