Recreation Dept. Sets Children's Summer Events

Activities for children being organized this summer by the Mackinac Island Recreation Department include sports camps, riding lessons, and art and nature activities.

A volleyball camp will be held Wednesday, July 19 through Friday, July 21, with Coach John Knuth, and a basketball camp will be Monday, August 14 through Wednesday, August 16, with Coach Sam Cornett.

Both camps are at the school and the cost for each is $75 for three days or $30 per day. Mackinac Island Public School student rate is $50 for all three days or $20 per day.

Horseback riding lessons will take place once a week from Thursday, July 13, through Thursday, August 31.

Youth tennis, softball, archery, gymnastics, and arts and nature activities are not yet scheduled.

Swings, slides, climbing equipment, a picnic area, and restrooms are available at Great Turtle Park, east of Harrisonville. The stake park there features a two-ramp jump box and grind rails.

Swings, slides, and climbing equipment is also available at the school playground.
