Raising Funds for Collection Is Only a Mile Away
To the Editor:

In honor of longtime resident Catherine Andress, we would like to submit an idea for raising the money to acquire the rare collection noted in the June 10 Town Crier. The idea is to try to collect a mile of dollar bills. Everyone knows a mile is 5,280 feet long. All denominations of bills are six inches long. Two bills end to end equal a foot in length, so 5,280 feet of bills would equal $10,560. A mile of $5 bills would equal $52,800, a mile of $10 bills would be $105,600, and a mile of $20 bills would be $211,200.

This is almost a painless way to raise money for a cause where no one has to feel they give too much. There just has to be a way for the public to see the collection grow and maybe contribute more.

If the Mackinac Island State Park Commission deems this idea feasible, please honor Catherine Andress by nameing the fundraiser after her. Thank you for considering the idea.
