F. Thomas Lewand of Mackinac Island and Birmingham has been appointed to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) board and executive committee to represent the private sector.

The appointments were made Thursday, June 22, by Governor Jennifer Granholm. His term on MEDC expires at the pleasure of the governor, while his committee appointment term expires April 16, 2012.

Mr. Lewand is the chairman of the Mackinac Island Board of Public Works and is a partner in the Detroit law firm Bodman LLP. He represents several county drain commissions in Michigan and is "special master" for Federal Judge John Feikens. In that position, he helps the judge run the Detroit water and sewer facilities.
