Businesses Get Police Reminders of Trash Rules The continuing problem of people putting trash bags out after Mackinac Island Service Company has picked up was discussed at the Public Safety Committee meeting Thursday, June 22. Mayor Margaret Doud noted that some businesses are putting trash out after closing and letting it sit out on the street over night. "We don't want people tripping on that stuff and it doesn't look good," she said. Police Chief William Lenaghan said he is looking at all cases and is notifying businesses if their trash is out when it should not be. Other issues discussed at the meeting included the boat lines using personal carts with tongue hitches, which is not allowed. Mayor Doud said the police department is now staffed for traffic control at full capacity. |
