MSHP To Host 'Peoples' Series Mackinac State Historic Parks will host the seventh event of the "Discovering the Peoples of Michigan" community discussion series at Historic Mill Creek Thursday, July 6, with Michigan State University Press authors John P. DuLong and Alan T. Forrester. This discussion will explore how French Canadians and Scots settled in Michigan and how their cultures and traditions have contributed to the ethnic diversity in Michigan. This is the seventh event of 10 developed by the Michigan State University Press and the Michigan Museums Association and funded through a We the People grant from the Michigan Humanities Council. Each event pairs two authors of Michigan State University Press Discovering the Peoples of Michigan series to present their research and discuss the rich heritage of their representative ethnic group. The event begins at 7 p.m. and is free. Historic Mill Creek is on US23, five minutes southeast of Mackinaw City. Alan T. Forrester was born in Saskatchewan to a Scottish and English family. He has earned two degrees from the University of Washington and served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. John P. DuLong is president of the Detroit Chapter of the French Canadian Heritage Society of Michigan and author of "Tracing Your French Ancestry: A Guide to North American French Genealogical Research." |
