Land Conservancy Presentation July 30 A presentation about land conservancy on Mackinac Island will be presented Friday, June 30, at the Mackinac Island Yacht Club for community leaders and others interested in land preservation. The 2 p.m. session is being hosted by the newly-organized Mackinac Conservancy and will be led by Tom Bailey of the Little Traverse Conservancy, which is assisting the local group. Mackinac Conservancy is an educational project that allows organizations and individuals to learn about the many options available for preserving land. It does not engage in political activity and takes no position on zoning or regulatory matters, said Marta Olson, one of the organizers of the group. The Little Traverse Conservancy works in cooperation with local and state government to protect important land, scenic features, and natural areas northern of Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. Mrs. Olson said the group hopes members of the Mackinac Island City Council and the Mackinac Island Community Foundation attend the session to learn about opportunities available for such efforts. |
